Title: The Farrell–Jones Conjecture for free-by-cyclic groups

The Farrell–Jones Conjecture for a group G has its origins in the study of high dimensional manifolds, and provides a method to understand manifolds whose fundamental group is G. After providing some background and motivation, we will discuss some techniques that have been developed to prove FJC for certain groups and classes of groups. I will discuss a proof of the Farrell–Jones conjecture for free-by-cyclic groups, and then give some idea of how similar techniques can be used to prove FJC for (torsion-free hyperbolic)-by-cyclic groups. This is joint work with Mladen Bestvina and Koji Fujiwara.
